View Article  Best Practices for RSS Advertising -- Pheedo
Pheedo is company I've admired from day one and Bill Flitter is someone I highly respect not only because of the work he is doing at Pheedo but also Bill has shown a true understanding of RSS and blogosphere. Bill has taking taken the time on a few previous occasions to stop by my blogs and give a simple thank you for linking to him. This was when this blog and a previous one were just starting up and barely had any links or citations.

Bill has even taken the time to provide me with some wisdom and advice when I've emailed him privately about a post he made. Great guy. Great company. Pheedo is an established authority whose pioneering work in RSS advertising has provided us with some of the best knowledge of this new medium through case ...   more »

View Article  Submit Your RSS Feed To MSN Search Via XML-RPC
Robin Good reports on how to submit your RSS feed to MSN Search. Very good article and must read for all blog and RSS publishers alike.

Microsoft went live with the New MSN Search this past week.

Google provides the lions share of search engine traffic to this blog but my Daily Success Motivation and Positive Thinking blog has seen an explosion of traffic from MSN for top keywords since the new MSN Search went officially live last week. Google was the primary source of search traffic for that blog but now it's almost 50/50 between MSN and Google. The good thing is that my results in MSN are much, much better than what they were before.

Check out this article by Robin Good. He discusses the relationship the New MSN Search has with Moreover for getting your content and ...   more »
View Article  RSS Traffic Tracking Help is On The Way?
According to my friend John-Paul at Advanced Business Blogging we can look forward to the delivery of services to help us gather better metrics and meaurements on the performance of our RSS feeds.

John-Paul mentions SyndicateIQ, Pheedo, and FeedBurner as services that are working on RSS solutions for measuring RSS metrics.

FeedBurner is especially useful in providing content publishers with some rather useful metrics for RSS. FeeBurner is like a proxy service for RSS. You "wrap" your regular RSS URL into a FeedBurner named RSS URL (this is called Burning your Feed) and you then marketing that FeedBurner URL.

FeedBurner then checks your RSS feed for you and polls it for updates just like an RSS reader would. I believe the last information I read from FeedBurner is that they check your RSS feed every 30 minutes or ...   more »
View Article  Ultimate RSS Marketing by Rok Hrastnik
On January 18th, 2004 Rok Hrastnik released what I consider to be the best book on RSS to hit the planet.

I'm know I'm bit late on publishing my buzz but I wanted to seek my teeth into all the good stuff first. :) Man, I was not disappointed one bit. This is great stuff!

Rok has done a fantastic job of capturing the state of RSS and how RSS is trending up in use and application. What is so phenomenal is the sheer volume of information that is both easy to follow, easy to understand and practical to apply. This piece of work doesn't just tell you what RSS feeds are it completely explores the whole paradigm-shift to distributed Internet content publishing and the changes that are influencing the increased usage of RSS feed for marketing.

Yesterday I blogged about the FeedBurner and Overture RSS advertising testing taking.

A quick note from MarketingVox notes that RSS advertising tests continue without negative feedback.

My hats off to the FeedBurner guys. I like them and what they are doing and I'm personally rooting for their success. They are providing great RSS feed services that help make RSS ever more interesting a technology to use and work with.

I'll continue to follow this developing story with great interest.

In a previous article FeedBurner using Overture Text Ads in RSS feeds. At that time I published this article there wasn't official confirmation according to the sources I blogged.

Well, now comes word that "it's official". Interentnews.com provides us with quotes from Dick Costolo the CEO of FeedBurner.

According this article published today about FeedBurner and Overture RSS advertising partnership, FeedBurner is indeed beta testing and RSS ad program with feeds from MobileTracker.net.

According to this article it is expected that Google should follow suit with some type of RSS contextual advertising within the next 6 months.

View Article  RSS Ad Blocking Apps
PaidContent.org has coverage an RSS feed hack that allows you to blog RSS advertisement.

Of course this is inevitable since RSS ads will go the way of website advertising. There will be blockers designed to strip RSS ad text and images from within RSS feeds just as there are ad blockers for webstie advertising.

Marketing Vox notes that Ad blockers generally have low usage as compared to pop-up blockers since pop-ups are more intrusive.

It will be a matter of time before we start seeing RSS news readers implementing some type of RSS ad block features I'm sure as RSS advertising become more widely used.

Adversting isn't evil but I do understand the lack of confidence surround marketing messages. The powerful thing about blogs and RSS is that of reputation building.

I believe that if the source is a trust ...   more »
