Best Practices for RSS Advertising -- Pheedo
by
T. L. Pakii Pierce
on Wed 25 May 2005 12:13 AM EDT
Pheedo is company I've admired from day one and Bill Flitter is someone I highly respect not only because of the work he is doing at Pheedo but also Bill has shown a true understanding of RSS and blogosphere. Bill has taking taken the time on a few previous occasions to stop by my blogs and give a simple thank you for linking to him. This was when this blog and a previous one were just starting up and barely had any links or citations. Bill has even taken the time to provide me with some wisdom and advice when I've emailed him privately about a post he made. Great guy. Great company. Pheedo is an established authority whose pioneering work in RSS advertising has provided us with some of the best knowledge of this new medium through case ... more »

RSS Promotion - Yahoo Publishers Guide to RSS Publishing
by
T. L. Pakii Pierce
on Fri 20 May 2005 08:18 PM EDT
Yahoo.com has publishers guide for using RSS with Yahoo for RSS Success. There isn't anything really ground breaking here yet it is still a useful stop on the web. The site appears to me to be a work in progress and Yahoo's place for additional RSS education.
Given Yahoo's RSS directory (My Yahoo) and it's importance in getting you additional Blog and RSS subscribers as well as getting you into Yahoo's organic search results at no cost, it is a worthy resource deserving your attention.
The information is rather brief with short entries on RSS basics, RSS submission, RSS promotion, RSS metrics (tracking) and RSS revenue generation. The information presented is designed to help you understand RSS and how to leverage the New My Yahoo RSS directory in your content publishing activities.
Again, there isn't anything really new here but ... more »

What's So Great About RSS?
by
T. L. Pakii Pierce
on Mon 02 May 2005 09:38 AM EDT
Clickz provides us with a article what makes RSS so attractive about RSS for advertising. RSS continues to find commercial application and relevancy for business and marketers with advertising a key focus for RSS applications. Clickz goes on to talk about the control aspects of RSS from a consumer point of use as being a big attraction for RSS usage. Indeed the customer revolution will help drive the popularity of RSS as an alternative mechanism for filtering and consuming information.
RSS is such a fantastic technology both in it's simplicity, cost effectiveness and use. As a customer I use RSS more and more everyday for by passing email spam and clutter to get the feeds of other Bloggers I read on a daily basis as well as get content streams for other interests of mine such as technology, movies and ... more »

Blog RSS Promotion with RSS Submit Version 1.10
by
T. L. Pakii Pierce
on Fri 15 Apr 2005 07:58 PM EDT
One of the coolest tools just got better folks! Back in February I wrote a review of RSS Submit. RSS Submit is a RSS submission tools that automates RSS feed submission to top RSS directories and search engines. It also allows you to automanually submit to important RSS feed directories that require you to manually submit your RSS feed. Submitting your RSS feed to RSS directories is a fundamental task of RSS marketing and promotion.
Visibility, Distribution and Reach
If you haven't acquainted yourself with the practice of RSS submissions here's a quick run down of why RSS submission is important.
Distribution. RSS allows you to distribute your message across multiple content sources allowing you to publish your content and deliver it to multiple targets from a single point. When you update your RSS feed your content is eventually ... more »

How To Get Blog RSS Subscribers
by
T. L. Pakii Pierce
on Wed 06 Apr 2005 10:21 AM EDT
I was asked the follow question by another business blogger the other day. I thought I would share some of my thoughts this here.
Q. How Do You Get People To Subscribe To Your RSS Feed?
First and foremost you want to make make sure you are publishing what people want to read. Your content should have purpose that target's your audience. With a business or professional blog you want to avoid publishing information that is only of interest to you. People primarily consume information for two primary reasons:
Education
Entertainment
Step #1: Develop Your Content for RSS
Not matter what the topic, niche or interest we are drawn to the educational or entertainment value of the content we consume. I'm being quite broad here in describing categories that motivate to read online content. But for brevity and simplicity these ... more »

on Tue 08 Feb 2005 01:07 PM EST
Based on my recently published post about the RSS Submit software, John Hesch who also publishes the Blogging Pro blog asks the question about the difference between blog and rss directory submission versus ping updates. Is one better than the other? Are both necessary?
He asks a great question I've given my reply but I'd also like to from others on this topic as well. Will you join our disussion?

Submit Your RSS Feed To MSN Search Via XML-RPC
by
T. L. Pakii Pierce
on Sat 05 Feb 2005 02:22 PM EST
Robin Good reports on how to submit your RSS feed to MSN Search. Very good article and must read for all blog and RSS publishers alike.
Microsoft went live with the New MSN Search this past week.
Google provides the lions share of search engine traffic to this blog but my Daily Success Motivation and Positive Thinking blog has seen an explosion of traffic from MSN for top keywords since the new MSN Search went officially live last week. Google was the primary source of search traffic for that blog but now it's almost 50/50 between MSN and Google. The good thing is that my results in MSN are much, much better than what they were before.
Check out this article by Robin Good. He discusses the relationship the New MSN Search has with Moreover for getting your content and ... more »

RSS Traffic Tracking Help is On The Way?
by
T. L. Pakii Pierce
on Wed 26 Jan 2005 05:20 PM EST
According to my friend John-Paul at Advanced Business Blogging we can look forward to the delivery of services to help us gather better metrics and meaurements on the performance of our RSS feeds.
John-Paul mentions SyndicateIQ, Pheedo, and FeedBurner as services that are working on RSS solutions for measuring RSS metrics.
FeedBurner is especially useful in providing content publishers with some rather useful metrics for RSS. FeeBurner is like a proxy service for RSS. You "wrap" your regular RSS URL into a FeedBurner named RSS URL (this is called Burning your Feed) and you then marketing that FeedBurner URL.
FeedBurner then checks your RSS feed for you and polls it for updates just like an RSS reader would. I believe the last information I read from FeedBurner is that they check your RSS feed every 30 minutes or ... more »

Ultimate RSS Marketing by Rok Hrastnik
by
T. L. Pakii Pierce
on Sun 23 Jan 2005 08:42 PM EST
On January 18th, 2004 Rok Hrastnik released what I consider to be the best book on RSS to hit the planet.
I'm know I'm bit late on publishing my buzz but I wanted to seek my teeth into all the good stuff first. :) Man, I was not disappointed one bit. This is great stuff!
Rok has done a fantastic job of capturing the state of RSS and how RSS is trending up in use and application. What is so phenomenal is the sheer volume of information that is both easy to follow, easy to understand and practical to apply. This piece of work doesn't just tell you what RSS feeds are it completely explores the whole paradigm-shift to distributed Internet content publishing and the changes that are influencing the increased usage of RSS feed for marketing.

How about your own blog? You do have one right? If you do, what type of feedback are you seeing? How are others linking to you and in what context are they linking to you? by
T. L. Pakii Pierce
on Sun 02 Jan 2005 05:38 PM EST
Reason #1 Your Markets Are Getting Smarter, Faster, And More Organized
With all the attention blogs and RSS has gotten in 2004 it is a sure bet that blogs will be even bigger news in 2005 as we move forward with defining more effective business uses for blogs. This one thing is for sure, thousands of blogs are created every day. The last statistic I've seen quoted by Technorati.com is that 23,000 blogs a day are created which is equal to about 1 blog every 3 seconds that joins the World Live Web.
This means that more and more people in your markets have blogs and there is no faster way of sharing ideas than with blogs and RSS. This represents a growing community of discourse among your customers and prospects that desire to talk with you. Additionally, this means ... more »
