In the continuing quest to distill a concise definition of a blog into something easy to remember and identify I cam across this entry. I think I will adopt this one and modify just a wee bit.

Dana Blankenhorn provides this simple definition over at Corante.com:

"Blogs are instant publishing"

How about that? Simple isn't it? I think of most challenging reasons for defining what a blog is comes from also trying to at the same time define what a blog does in the way that blogs do what they do.

At the end of the day a blog is indeed instant publishing. It is the benefit of publishing with blog that is so interesting and exciting and to which this blog itself is dedicated to documenting.

Blogging is the the activity of publishing a weblog. Weblog or blog for short, is frequently updated website where your articles or content are published in a chronological order with a date and time stamp associated with that particular entry.

You can think of blogging as journaling on the web. Instead of opening up a journal of your desk and writing and entry, you simply type your entry into your weblog using your computer and the internet. A weblog is basically a digital journal and blogging means that you are writing or updating your weblog about a certain topic or theme of interest to you.

Your digital journal or blog differs quite a bit from the literal journal book or pad you may have in your study. Entries to your blog are listed with the latest or last entry listed first on your blog. So when someone visits your blog, they will see your most recently published articles first with the older ones list in order down the line the least recent entry.
