View Article  iPod, Apple and Podcasting Happy Days
Here's a good read on the continue growth and popularity of Podcasting. There is a short take at the end of this column on Podcast about the wildly successful iPod. It mentions the growing number of Windows users now owning iPods and continue growth of such.

Well I'm I Windows and Linux users but more Windows. I was hardcore with RealMedia and hated Windows Media Player. I haven't gotten and iPod yet bet let me say iTunes kicks butt! I love it and the FoxyTunes FireFox plugin that allows you to launch and manage iTunes from your browser status bar is simply heaven sent.

Okay sorta off topic here but hey...

View Article  The Declining Influence of Homepages
Has it begun to occur in the minds of some that homepages are losing their influence and that they are not the gateways to site content anymore? Weblogg-ed highlights one aspect of web content that is being heavily influenced by RSS.

In this case it is the loss of the weight of influence of the homepage. Weblogg-ed references articles from Digital Web and CyberJournalist that spotlights this growing trend.

This indeed may require a rethinking of information architecture (IA) by those who participate heavliy in content design and presentation. Especially when you consider the normal web design paradigm. View Article  How To Blog 102 - Planning Your Blog

Let’s cover some basic essentials to planning and publishing your blog. I will classify 3 categories of bloggers in this lesson. There are many more “types” of blogs that may fall into one of the 3 categories and these categories themselves are not all inclusive.

These categories are:

  • Personal Bloggers
  • Organizational Bloggers
  • Business Bloggers

Personal bloggers tend to publish articles that voice their opinion on a wide array of topics and events. Personal bloggers typically find pleasure in documenting their personal lives, ranting, stream of consciousness type entries reflecting moods and mind sets and publishing a variety of themes or interests.

Organizational bloggers use blogs to communicate both internally within their organizations but they also may communicate externally with the public as well. An organizational blog will facilitate internal communications between colleagues, employees and other organizational personnel. An organizational blog ...   more »

View Article  My Yahoo RSS Upgrades Officially Live
I blogged back on Sept 30 in and article entitled Yahoo Takes RSS Mainstream at my RSS Powered Report blog about how Yahoo had been beta testing RSS search in their search results. I urged you then to take advantage of getting your RSS feed into Yahoo! asap.

All you need to do is open a free New My Yahoo! account and add your feed as part of your personalized content. The New My Yahoo is heavily driven by RSS content for which Yahoo! was testing RSS search.   more »
View Article  Ads Making Overtures in RSS
In a previous article FeedBurner using Overture Text Ads in RSS feeds. At that time I published this article there wasn't official confirmation according to the sources I blogged.

Well, now comes word that "it's official". Interentnews.com provides us with quotes from Dick Costolo the CEO of FeedBurner.

According this article published today about FeedBurner and Overture RSS advertising partnership, FeedBurner is indeed beta testing and RSS ad program with feeds from MobileTracker.net.

According to this article it is expected that Google should follow suit with some type of RSS contextual advertising within the next 6 months.

View Article  RSS Ad Blocking Apps
PaidContent.org has coverage an RSS feed hack that allows you to blog RSS advertisement.

Of course this is inevitable since RSS ads will go the way of website advertising. There will be blockers designed to strip RSS ad text and images from within RSS feeds just as there are ad blockers for webstie advertising.

Marketing Vox notes that Ad blockers generally have low usage as compared to pop-up blockers since pop-ups are more intrusive.

It will be a matter of time before we start seeing RSS news readers implementing some type of RSS ad block features I'm sure as RSS advertising become more widely used.

Adversting isn't evil but I do understand the lack of confidence surround marketing messages. The powerful thing about blogs and RSS is that of reputation building.

I believe that if the source is a trust ...   more »

View Article  Blog Software Review - BlogJet 1.2 Beta
Dmitry Chestnykh, creator ofBlogJet has just released the beta version of BlogJet 1.2. The current release version is BlogJet 1.1.x. Let say right off the bat that I really love this tool. There aren't many blog editors available that will allow you to publish to multiple blogs and manage that blog content remotely from a single tool. However, I'm sure that will change as blogging becomes even more popular and the need for this type of solution becomes more readily apparent.

BlogJet is a blog editor and as such it is a windows software client that allows to you write, publish, and edit content for multiple blogs. If you are familiar Microsoft Word, then you will find BlogJet intuitive.

Installation and Configuration

Right off the start BlogJet is a simple download at 8mb and is a cinch to install. Once installed the Account Wizard steps you through the process of setting up an account. Chances are you will be using a blog software supported by BlogJet. BlogJet supports the following software used to create blog sites:   more »
