View Article  Best Practices for RSS Advertising -- Pheedo
Pheedo is company I've admired from day one and Bill Flitter is someone I highly respect not only because of the work he is doing at Pheedo but also Bill has shown a true understanding of RSS and blogosphere. Bill has taking taken the time on a few previous occasions to stop by my blogs and give a simple thank you for linking to him. This was when this blog and a previous one were just starting up and barely had any links or citations.

Bill has even taken the time to provide me with some wisdom and advice when I've emailed him privately about a post he made. Great guy. Great company. Pheedo is an established authority whose pioneering work in RSS advertising has provided us with some of the best knowledge of this new medium through case ...   more »

View Article  Another Reason Why Microsoft, Yahoo to Come and Dominate the Blogosphere?
In a very interesting post today by The Blog Herald they posit the case for another reason why Yahoo!, Microsoft and others will come to dominate the blogosphere. The snapshot to your right (from The Blog Herald via The Software Journal) is of the new Yahoo! Messenger 7 Beta tool which integrates into Yahoo services including Yahoo's new blogging service Yahoo! 360.

It stands to reason, according to the Blog Herald, that given the millions of users of Instant Messaging (IM) tools like MSN Messenger, AOL Messenger and of course Yahoo! Messenger that these services have a tremendous opportunity to gain significant traction in the blogosphere. How so? By allowing these already free messenging tools to hook into free blogging tools they are seamlessly tapping into a huge installed user base literally on the fly. This represents a significant ...   more »
View Article  Bursting the Blog Bubble? I think Not
Seems that George Simpson at MediaPost heard a cosmic crash last week. Hmmmm...I didn't hear anything. Obviously we can expect more anti-blog rhetoric to emerge and rightfully so. With all of the media attention and claims to the effectiveness of blog publishing there needs to an examination of those claims. There needs to be a continued discussion of what works and what doesn't work with blogs. That is to be expected. (similarly discussed here at Desconstructing the Blog). As with everything else, critics and cynics will spin the facts, test cases and whatever else they have at their disposal to make their arguments. I'm okay with that.

Ah...nothing like lively debate. At any rate...

I can't help but sense that George hasn't fully explored the many ways that blogs are proving to be effective publishing and communications tools for ...   more »
View Article  Bagging Blogging Stereotypes
Amy Gahran publishes a very good article on blogging stereotypes designed to help you initiate intelligent and informative discussions about blogging while avoiding the spread of misinformation. In other words, she presents a discussion on how not to discuss "blogging".

Amy starts out with a definition of what a blog is and follows her definition with a list unique characteristics and features that are common among blogs and serve to differentiate blogs from other online publishing tools. There is some overlap and blurring of capabilities or uses between blog publishing and other means of online publishing so Amy defines other types of online publishing that aren't considered to be weblog publishing. This is a great post that closes with blog myths and stereotypes to avoid when discussing blogs.

Again, great post. Read more...   more »

View Article  PowerPoint - How To Plan, Build & Promote A Business Blog
I love blogging. I really do. Because I continue to meet so many fantastic people. I certainly do appreciate all of the emails and Skype calls I continue to get. I'm now have to rethink my contact management or at least upgrade my contact management skills to successfully grow the many great contacts I've made which result in some pretty valuable associations. This brings me to Rich Brooks of Flyte New Media blog. Beside a blog on web design and marketing that I've come to enjoy reading Rich has also published a PowerPoint presentation on blog planning, blog building and blog promotion.

I met Rich in the blogosphere (no surprise there!) as I was checking inbound links and noticed that he was kind enough to link to me. I replied to his blog with a thanks and email conversations ...   more »
View Article  RSS Promotion - Yahoo Publishers Guide to RSS Publishing

Yahoo.com has publishers guide for using RSS with Yahoo for RSS Success. There isn't anything really ground breaking here yet it is still a useful stop on the web. The site appears to me to be a work in progress and Yahoo's place for additional RSS education.

Given Yahoo's RSS directory (My Yahoo) and it's importance in getting you additional Blog and RSS subscribers as well as getting you into Yahoo's organic search results at no cost, it is a worthy resource deserving your attention.

The information is rather brief with short entries on RSS basics, RSS submission, RSS promotion, RSS metrics (tracking) and RSS revenue generation. The information presented is designed to help you understand RSS and how to leverage the New My Yahoo RSS directory in your content publishing activities.

Again, there isn't anything really new here but ...   more »
